How did the Gupta Empire become decentralized?
Decentralisation is the inevitable end of late Spenglerian societies.
Once the bureacratic apparatus & societal organization become too cumbersome
& resource-intensive to be maintained by the presently available resources,
complex systems - like the Continent-spanning Gupta Empire- undergo a process
of Catabolic collapse wherein their ability to successfully project power &
communications over significant spans of time, distance, and societal cruft
reduces significantly.
A similar process will inevitably happen to the modern world soon, likely within
the timeframe of 2025 CE to 2033 CE, according to certain individuals.
Accordingly, we observe significant levels of decentralisation within the Gupta
Empire in the years leading upto 525 CE- where the Empire was weakened
considerably enough to lose control of the Continent at multiple points- and
beyond, as well in the late 8th Century CE when it finally collapsed.
The legacy of the Empire was carried forward by its constituent vassals- some of
them even claiming Imperial status for themselves, however the line itself
appears to vanish from history itself
